Better Grapes, Naturally! TM
At Sanctuary Vineyard, our grapes are grown in soil deposited by the Wisconsin glacier 11,000 years
ago. Glacial soils are naturally light with good water retention, and produce healthy vines.
The vineyard faces south on the shores of Lake Pepin, which is large enough (at 22 miles long and 3
miles wide) to have its own microclimate. The lake moderates the humidity, providing breezes that
help control insects, and allows the growing season to extend into the fall, with less risk of an early frost.
We manage our vineyard using best practices identified by experts at the University of Minnesota and
the Minnesota Grape Growers Association. Natural growing techniques are used whenever possible to
minimize chemical exposure and to create a low-impact growing environment.
Great wines are a product of 3 unique factors:
- balanced, well-drained soil
- a supportive microclimate
- best practices in growing healthy fruit
Established in 2004, we sell cold-hardy grapes to the discriminating home wine-maker.
