Frontenac, introduced in 1996, has
quickly become the #1 grape variety
grown in Minnesota.
Frontenac is a very
versatile grape for wine-making. As a red
wine, the color is usually garnet red, with
flavors of cherry, berry, and plum.
Frontenac grapes are often used to
produce rose or port wines.
Frontenac Gris, introduced in
2003, is a color mutation of
Frontenac, with bronze-colored
berries instead of red berries. As a
white wine, its flavor is clean and
crisp, with an apricot or peach
flavor.
Frontenac Gris can also be
used to produce ice-style wines.
Prairie Star is a white grape that ripens in
mid-season. The grapes have excellent body
with good sugar/acid balance.
Prairie Star
grapes can be used as a blend, but produce
very good white wines on their own, as well.
